Mr. James L. Ball, MA FRCOphth
Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
Mr. Ball was awarded his medical degree at Cambridge University. After completion of his ophthalmology training in Yorkshire in 2003 he moved to Australia to undertake specialist training in laser eye surgery at the prestigious Lions Eye Institute, WA. Here he worked on the development of new techniques in refractive surgery. On his return to the UK, Mr. Ball completed a second fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Since his appointment as consultant at St James’s University Hospital in 2005 he has pioneered novel techniques in corneal surgery and has appeared on BBC Look North as an expert in corneal and refractive surgery. Mr. Ball has performed over 2000 laser eye surgery and refractive procedures.
Treatments provided by Mr Ball
James Ball offers the full range of available treatments to treat shortsight, longsight, astigmatism, presbyopia and cataracts, (and other conditions such as keratoconus and higher order aberrations). To treat these conditions, he use the most advanced eye treatment techniques including LASIK, surface laser treatment (LASEK, ASA, PRK, Epi-LASEK), Presbyopia lens exchange (PRELEX), and cataract surgery. For selected patients, he can also offer Conductive Keratoplasty (CK), Phakic IOLs, Intacs and Cross-Linking (CR-3).
