Aged 45 to 60 and frustrated by your glasses?
"In my spare time I love to play golf. I have needed glasses for distance since I was 30 years old. For the last 10 years, I became increasingly frustrated because I started needing reading glasses as well. I don't like the vision that varifocals gave me, and became irritated with having to swap between my distance and reading glasses all the time. My work was becoming almost impossible. I had presbyopic lens exchange (PRELEX) to both eyes with multifocal lens implants last July. I can now see better than 20/20 for distance and can read the tiniest print in newspapers - all without glasses! I have started reading for pleasure again, and I feel that my performance both at work and on the golf course has improved."John is a 52 year old electrician and father of 3
Special Considerations
After the age of 45 the lens inside the eye becomes less flexible so that you lose the ability to "pull focus" for near objects. This is called presbyopia or "short-arm syndrome" and creates a whole new set of vision problems for people in this age group. The "IOL Counsellor" below illustrates the effect of presbyopia and the benefits of treatment.Common eye problems in people aged 45 to 60
