Aged under 45 and hate wearing glasses?

Karen after LASIK surgery"When I'm not running around after my family, I enjoy swimming, going to the cinema and reading. I needed to wear glasses or contact lenses because of my short-sightedness (-6 in each eye). I didn't really like my appearance in my glasses and found my contact lenses a real hassle. Eventually, I had had enough. I had LASIK on both eyes at Custom Vision Clinics, and can now see better than 20/20, without my glasses or contact lenses. More importantly, I now feel that I can get more out of my busy life."
Karen is a 32 year old mother of two.

Special Considerations

Up until the age of 45 the lens inside the eye is soft and flexible. This means that if we can give a person perfect vision in the distance; when their eyes are relaxed they will always be able to "pull focus" for near. The commonest way to give clear distance vision is with laser treatment: LASIK or surface laser. For patients who are not suitable for laser eye surgery it is possible to implant a contact lens into the eye to give clear distance vision and again maintain the magical ability to "pull focus" for near.

Common problems

Myopia
Hyperopia
Astigmatism

Bespoke solutions

LASIK
Surface laser (PRK, LASEK, epi-LASIK)
Phakic IOL's

Since there are a variety of solutions to the problem of blurred distance vision (whether  it is caused by myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism) it is vital to tailor the solution to the individual patient's eyes. Whilst laser eye surgery is a great option for many people, some patients with high prescriptions achieve a better quality of vision with phakic IOL's.
